The Grass Tree Restaurant brings a touch of contemporary elegance to Kalbarri while still retaining the casual relaxed ambience characteristic of this coastal town. The vibrant orange flags and chairs first draw attention, though it’s hard to walk past the stunning sea views. Locals have grown to love the aromatic Asian delights. The grilled prime scotch fillet is served with roast new potato, red wine eshalots and oriental bearnaise, while the crayfish comes in a creamy whisky sauce. Few can pass up the tantalising pear and apple tarts.
Inside, the multicultural theme continues with paintings from Switzerland and China and furnishings from Asia. The only exception is the wine list which, aside from the French Veuve Clicquot and a smattering of South Australian and Victorian labels, are all from WA’s premium wine producers.
